Tapioca Starch
Tapioca starch, also called cassava starch, is a refined starch extracted from cassava roots with the fibre removed. It is used as a binder in shrimp feed, extruded fish feed and pet food. MANTA works with producers in Vietnam to supply tapioca starch to international markets.
What Tapioca Starch is.
Tapioca starch, also called cassava starch, is a refined starch extracted from cassava roots with the fibre removed. It is used as a binder in shrimp feed, extruded fish feed and pet food. MANTA works with producers in Vietnam to supply tapioca starch to international markets.
Tapioca starch is produced in Vietnam from locally grown cassava roots. In aqua feed it is used mainly as a binder: it swells and sets (gelatinises) during extrusion or steam pelleting and helps pellets hold together in water. HS code 1108.14 (native starch).
Judge tapioca starch by its starch content and binding behaviour. It is not a protein ingredient. For an energy ingredient with fibre, see cassava flour.
Key variables
- Starch content
- Confirm the minimum and the test method.
- Moisture
- Review against storage and shipping time.
- Viscosity
- Confirm where binding performance matters to the formulation.
- Whiteness and ash
- Confirm limits against the specification.
- pH
- Review the required range.
- Microbiological parameters
- Confirm where required by the application or the destination market.
- Packaging and storage
- Align bag type, loading and storage requirements.
Quality grades and available origins.
Tapioca starch is a plant ingredient with no animal-origin restrictions. Documents usually include a phytosanitary certificate, a certificate of origin (for example Form D for ASEAN destinations or Form E for China) and a COA per lot. Exact requirements depend on the destination country.

Questions about Tapioca Starch.
What is tapioca starch used for in aqua feed?
It is used mainly as a binder. The starch swells and sets during extrusion or steam pelleting and helps shrimp and fish pellets hold together in water.
Is tapioca starch the same as cassava starch?
Yes. Tapioca starch and cassava starch are two names for the same product, extracted from cassava roots. In some markets it is also sold as tapioca flour.
What is the difference between tapioca starch and cassava flour?
Tapioca starch is refined and almost pure starch. Cassava flour is the whole dried root, ground, with fibre, and is used mainly as an energy source.
How much tapioca starch is used in shrimp feed?
Inclusion depends on the species, the formula and the process; the feed mill's nutritionist sets it. We share the specification so the mill can test it.
What is the HS code for tapioca starch?
Native tapioca (manioc) starch is classified under HS 1108.14. Modified starches fall under other codes. Confirm the code with the customs authority of the destination country.
How do I request a quote for tapioca starch?
Send the target specification, quantity, destination country, required documents and delivery period. We reply within 48 hours with a reference number.
