Vietnam remains a large, import-dependent feed market — roughly 75% of feed ingredients are imported — with total feed demand forecast to grow from 28.62 million tonnes in 2025 to 30.45 million tonnes in 2026 (USDA FAS, August 2026). Aquaculture is the standout growth engine.
Structural import reliance
Vietnam sources most of its corn, soybeans, soybean meal, feed wheat and DDGS abroad. USDA data show corn imports of 4.6 million tonnes in H1 2025 (down 6% year-on-year), with Argentina and Brazil the main suppliers; soybean imports are forecast at 2.5 million tonnes (MY 2024/25) rising to 2.8 million tonnes (MY 2025/26), and soybean-meal use climbing from 7.20 to 7.60 million tonnes.
Regulation
Vietnam has eliminated most-favoured-nation (MFN) tariffs on corn and soybean meal, supporting continued import flows and origin competition.
Demand drivers
- Aquaculture led in H1 2025 at 2.6 million tonnes (+4.9%), with pangasius at 872,000 tonnes (+4.5%) and white-leg shrimp at 366,900 tonnes (+7.3%).
- Livestock feed demand is tempered by disease: African swine fever remained active, with about 1.2 million hogs culled in 2025 and pork prices firm.
What it means: Vietnam offers durable, structural demand across protein meals and energy grains, reinforced by tariff liberalisation — but disease cycles and origin logistics keep the focus on secure sourcing, quality documentation and payment reliability.
Watch: ASF and herd rebuilding; aquaculture export momentum; South American crop and freight conditions; FX and veterinary/import rules on animal-origin ingredients.
MANTA view: “A structurally import-dependent market where reliable origins, clean documentation and payment security matter as much as price.”
