Vietnam and Southeast Asia remain among the world’s most import-dependent feed markets. This outlook summarises three current, published data points relevant to buyers and suppliers of animal proteins and marine ingredients.

Global feed production is still growing

According to the Alltech Agri-Food Outlook 2026 (released April 2026), global feed production rose 2.9% in 2025 to an estimated 1.44 billion tonnes, based on a survey of 142 countries and 38,837 feed mills. The top three producers — China, the United States and Brazil — accounted for 47.7% of global tonnage. Alltech describes growth as uneven and increasingly regionalised, driven more by productivity and structural change than by herd expansion.

Marine ingredient supply rose in 2025

IFFO, the marine ingredients organisation, projected 2025 global production of about 5.6 million tonnes of fishmeal and 1.2–1.3 million tonnes of fish oil. Production over January–July 2025 increased year-on-year — fishmeal up around 8% and fish oil up around 5% — and fishmeal consumption by aquaculture exceeded 2024 levels. Because Peru accounts for roughly 20% of global output in an average year, regional shifts matter: Peru, Spain and the Iceland/North Atlantic region declined year-on-year even as the global total rose.

Vietnam’s import demand keeps climbing

USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service forecasts Vietnam’s feed-ingredient import demand rising about 2.6% in 2025 to roughly 20.3 million tonnes, with corn (around 8.2 million tonnes) and soybean meal (around 6 million tonnes) the largest volumes. Aquaculture is a key growth driver, with Vietnamese aquaculture output near 6 million tonnes in 2025; new feed-mill capacity of about 1.6 million tonnes came online across the country in 2024 and early 2025.

What this means for buyers and suppliers

For feed manufacturers, pet food and aqua feed companies in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, firm aquaculture demand and rising marine-ingredient supply support forward planning for fishmeal and animal-protein purchases. At the same time, regional supply shifts — such as lower output in Peru — reinforce the value of confirming origin, grade and specification on a per-shipment basis rather than assuming fixed availability.

MANTA works with suppliers and buyers to coordinate these trades: keeping communication clear, confirming specification and origin per shipment, and following up on documentation and logistics through delivery.
