Global feed production reached 1.44 billion tonnes in 2025

Source-aware · MANTA Trading House · June 18, 2026

Global compound feed output reached an estimated 1.44 billion tonnes in 2025, up 2.9% (about 40 million tonnes) year-on-year, according to the Alltech Agri-Food Outlook — a clear signal of steady, structural demand for feed raw materials.

The 2026 survey covered 142 countries and 38,837 feed mills. Growth was uneven and increasingly regionalised, driven less by herd expansion than by productivity gains, structural change and improved data capture.

By region

  • Asia (559.3 M t): remained the global centre of feed production, supported by industrialisation and price-conscious consumers lifting poultry and aquaculture demand.
  • Europe (274.06 M t, +1.0%): resilient as lower raw-material prices — large soybean, rapeseed, wheat and maize harvests — improved margins.
  • Latin America (204.45 M t, +2.8%): strengthened its role as the world’s “protein basket,” with broad gains in poultry, pork and aquaculture backed by strong exports and cheaper grain.
  • Africa & Middle East (102.55 M t): diverged by country.

By species

Pig feed rose 3.0% to 380.91 M t on recovering Asian herds; layer feed rose 3.2% to 180.13 M t; aquaculture feed posted the strongest growth at 4.7% (55.47 M t) on expanding seafood demand. Broiler remains the single largest segment.

What it means: a larger, more regionalised feed base signals durable structural demand for protein meals and energy grains, while shifting trade flows put a premium on origin flexibility and reliable documentation.

Watch: lower global grain prices supported 2025 margins; weather extremes, animal disease (ASF, avian influenza) and freight/energy costs remain the main swing factors for regional feed demand into 2026.

MANTA view: “Feed demand is now driven by structural and productivity change rather than herd growth — which rewards consistent supply, origin flexibility and clean documentation.”
